All active duty, active reserve, and full time employees of the Coast Guard are eligible. Auxiliary, inactive reserves, dependents and contractors are not eligible to play. ID cards may be checked for verification. 2. Each team must submit a team roster with player name, rank/rate, and unit. Rosters must be submitted to the tournament coordinator NLT 1 March. Each team will receive a complete listing of all team rosters. Roster changes must be brought to the attention of the Coordinator as they are made. 3. Players may only play for one team. 4. Half shields are required as a minimum. This is rink policy and may or may not be enforced by the rink. Players without a shield may not be allowed to play. Players should come prepared to outfit helmet with a face shield if required. 5. No checking. Infractions will not be tolerated and could result in game or tournament disqualification. 6. Referee calls are final. Unsportsmanlike behavior from players and coaches will not be tolerated. 7. Underage drinking at the tournament receptions will not be tolerated. It is the responsibility of each player to observe and adhere to the drinking age. Violations of this may result in dismissal from the tournament. Location Connecticut College’s Dayton Arena (860) 439-2575 Registration and Tournament Fee Entrance fee is $600 per team. Preston, CT 06365 Pre-tournament Meeting All participating teams and individuals are invited to ______________ on Thursday night to check in, socialize, and finalize any unresolved issues. Site TBD. Equipment Full equipment, including a protective face shield, is required (see Rules for amplifying information). Shoulder pads are optional. Double check to insure all players have a helmet, shin pads, elbow pads, cup, pants, gloves, and mouthpiece prior to departure from your home unit. Selection in the vicinity is limited and expensive. Skate sharpening can be done at the Norwich rink located 15 minutes to the north for $4. Officials Referees will be provided by the SECYH Officials Association. There will be one ref per game for Friday and two refs per game for all games on Saturday. Actual number of refs subject to slight change. Games (format subject to change based on number of teams) DRAFT On Friday, there is ice from 0700-1600. On Saturday there is ice from 0700-1300 and 1900-2300. Schedules and number of games will depend on the final number of participating teams. All teams will likely play three games on Friday, and another two on Saturday. Game Format is still being developed. Pre tournament rankings are as follows. Rankings are based on last year's results. 1. USCGA 2. PACAREA Icebreakers 3. New England 4. Straggle West Medical CGA medical clinic staff will be available to offer assistance as necessary.Mid Tournament ReceptionTBD. Remaining FundsAny remaining funds from the tournament will be carried over to help fund next year’s tournament. Funds will be entrusted to the MWR Commandant’s Cup Tournament Fund. Stick TimeThose players arriving early Thursday may take advantage of stick time at the rink from 1300-1430. Cost is $5. USCG Hockey ItemsThe sale of such items serves to promote the Coast Guard and the hockey program. All proceeds will support initiatives of the Coast Guard Hockey Program. This year we expect to have: Hooded sweatshirts, short sleeve T-shirts, warm up pants, mesh shorts, half zip pullover, and an overunder shirt (looks like a short sleeve over a long sleeve). All apparel will be navy blue with an orange and white print of the Coast Guard hockey logo with crossed hockey sticks. Stocks are limited and will sold on a first come, first serve basis. Apparel will be available at the Thursday evening social. Equipment Specials As a special offering to Coast Guard players, Bauer/Nike equipment will be available for purchase and will be offered at near wholesale prices. Equipment to be offered includes skates, gloves, sticks, and helmets. In most cases these will be new year models not yet available in stores and selection is very, very limited. If you have any special requests, please contact LCDR Forando. AccommodationsRed Roof Inn, only a mile from the rink, has offered a very low rate of $49.99 per room (no limit on persons per room) to tournament participants. Call (860) 444-0001 for reservations. State that you are here for the USCG hockey tournament. A block of 25 rooms has been reserved. Any rooms not reserved by Feb 12 will be made available to the general public. Make note of any special requests at the time of your reservation (rollaways, cribs, etc.). MealsMeals are entirely on your own. The Academy All Hands Dining Facility will be open as well as the Dry Dock sandwich shop. There are a variety of fast food and specialty shops in the area. Directions available upon request. The area casinos offer an all you can eat buffet. |
