Great job Mike, thanks!CONGRATULATIONS to the ACADEMY Team - the 16th Annual Admiral's Cup Champions!!! (read the article from the USCGA site)
Player Stats Link is updated for this year........ Well another year has come and gone. I have to say this year was another successful tournament and each team played their hearts out. And when I mean played their hearts out, I really and truly mean that.
For those of you that may have left prior to the final between the Plank Owners and Academy you may have missed one of the BEST games I have witnessed in my 16 years of being involved in this tournament. This game was the real thing. The Plank Owners scored first and held the lead for two periods. However, early in the third the Academy team just would not give up their countless fore checking and cycling down low finally paid off and they tied the score at two. This battle of these two Titians went back and forth which each goaltender keeping their team in the game by making clutch save after saves, and at one point late in the third Plank Owners thought they had the third goal only to be waived off by the referee saying it hit the post and came out. So at the end of regulation play the score was tied at 2 to 2. Into the overtime we go, and again each goaltender came up big once again, but early in the second overtime the Academy team proofed to be the better team by scoring on a well set up play that beat Plank Owner goalie Phil Wolf. So with that said… Congratulations to all of the Academy players and fans. You guys are true Champions and earned your place among those of us that have drunk from the Cup and you have earned the right to have your name engraved with all the other past Champions. I now need to take a minute to say this. I am extremely proud to be affiliated with the Plank Owners team. While I was stuck on the bench because of an injury I had witnessed this grizzly bunch of old veterans play an extremely hard game against a very young and talented Boston team just prior to playing in the championship game.
Then I witness another game right after that…. And that game was a game of all games. Not taking anything away from the Academy team, because they are and will be a great Championship team and deserve to be called Champions.
But I can say this, with a team that has an average age of 39 years young… You guys have to be the most respected team out their and a tip of my hat to you all. You would not quit even though your body what too, you would not. You all make me proud to know you and I look forward seeing you next year, hopefully feeling the pain, well not actually the pain. Some of this years award winners: Admirals Cup winners: Academy 2008 MVP Phil Wolf Plank Owners 2008 Best Goalie Andrew Palladino 2008 Team MVP and leading scorer with 18 points Dewey Worker You can check all this out at http://teamworkswarwick.com/ then use our user and password which is uscg for both user name and password.
